Prelim's over. PSLE Oral is over too. Time flies.

PSLE Orals:

~English

I was confident. That is what I thought. Overnight, I became over confident. However, my legs went very wobbly when I saw the teachers. Reason?

They looked very old. I cursed my luck when I saw my examiners. Old teachers tend to be very strict. Shit! I thanked my lucky stars when I saw the picture. Easy. OMG. Was that the official Day 1 PSLE Oral picture?

But the reading... My marks must have been pulled down due to that. While I was reading the first line something wrong. I can't vaguely remember, but I did not meet my standard. I had no choice.

"May I restart?" I asked my anonymous examiners smilingly. They nodded, smilingly. Phew...

~Mother Tongue

I do not believe it, I actually scored 42/50 (prelim). I think know why I lost the 8 marks. I gave a super long pause, as I was lost for vocabulary. Mother tongue PSLE Oral went smoothly. I think I will get 45/50 or in that range. Good?

~Prelim results

Totally shocking. The subject in which I am the worst in, I got the highest. Mother Tongue. 82. Since CA1, I have been improving my mother tongue by 10. May be, the next time, it will be the 90s?!

This time, Mtaths is good. Oh yeah. IMPROVED! =) But my mock test 1 was the best. But forr me, maths is like a yo-yo. Good-bad. This time is considered as bad. So next time will be damn good!

Two positive points so far...

English??? What happened to me??? It can't be. I hae been neglecing English to much already. Maths had been my highest priority. English can't be revealed here.

Science is bad too. Science was never a strong subject. But neither was it that pathetic either. Need to wake up.

Hi! Sorry about not continuing about the teaching Addison thing. So I shall continue with it now. By the way, 6A had tutored 6H again, on Wednesday. So I shall be writing both day's experience.
Day 1(31/07)
Every time I got Addison to study or prepare a reading passage or picture conversation, he would tear bits of his resource papers. His eyes would wander here and there.

I felt like yelling at him to concentrate. But I did not want hear vulgarities sprouting from his mouth. I do not know much about Addison, but I sure know that he does not have a good record for behaviour. So, instead, calmly told him, "Please concentrate,".

Was I having poor tolerance power when I wanted to yell at him? Or was it that I was irritated beyond limits? I do not know. Please comment regarding this.

Mr Phua, his teacher came around to check on him. He asked me how Addison was doing. I told him that Addison is okay but always gets distracted. Mr Phua said, "He's always like that," as he stole a glance from Addison. Addison was also given two rectangular pieces of paper by Mr Phua. It had comments from his prelim oral examiner.

I took it and read the comments. I do not vividly remember the comments, but I sure do remember that there were words like 'soft', 'monotonous' etc. etc.

I let him choose an oral picture for him to say. He chose the picture which depicts a scene at a music lesson (yikes! I'm using depict again!). I gave him FIVE WHOLE MINUTES. I timed it using my watch.

As usual, Addison was looking everywhere but the picture. - told him to concentrate, but he would not. After exactly five minutes, I told him to start. He said, "One more minute!" I sighed and nodded.

"If in five minutes he could not study the picture, how would he study it in a mere minute?" I asked myself. Nevertheless, I gave him exactly one minute and thirty seconds. After which, I told him to start.

Sure enough, Addison was mumbling. No description. No personal opinions. Nothing. Picture Conversation was over in about a minute or so. I was not absolutely shocked. I saw it coming when I heard his reading. Simply not bothered attitude. Or as we say in Singlish, the bo-chap attitude. I said I was not totally shocked. But I was, a little. In a minute, he finished the Picture Conversation. I was expecting at least two minutes. And he had to ask me about some words. He asked, "What ah?"

He did have some misinterpretation, I sighed.

I asked him if he wanted to re-do. By asking him that, I wanted to know if I could consider his mistakes as a bo-chap attitude or, if he really really could not speak. Or his mind went blank.

The response was immediate.

A quick no was the response.

Never mind!

I moved on to oral conversation. I referred to the post-its on that piece of paper I had. The most likely topic would be 'Have you ever watch or participated in a performance?'

Me: Have you ever watch or participated in a performance before?

Addison: No.

Me: Do you intend to watch or participate in a performance?

Addison: No.

Me: Why?

Addison: Very boring.

~~The End of Oral Conversation~~

He just shut me up! Arghhhhh! Now I can completely empathise with you, MC. When you were sharing with us the experience you had while testing the pupils oral conversation. They just shut you up. Very annoying.

"Okay, now we are coming to the end of this session. Please wrap up today's learning," MC said as the one hour sessison was just minutes away from ending.

Addison seemed very glad. Obviously he was looking forward to the end of this session since the beginning He grabbed his stuff and got up, ready to leave.

The end of the first day of tutoring.

Well, my reflection on this is that, I have given my best. Now it is Addison's choice if he wants to absorb it. It is his choice if he wants to co-operate to achieve better results for oral. Completely his choice.

Hi! Today, I went to Singapore Science Centre, after a day's insistence. I went there with my gang members from my mother tongue school. You see, yesterday was prelim. And we were in the examination location for about 5 hours. And thus, we deserve a break. And I got things I did not really expect. Well, in the good way.

At the entrance of the Science Centre, there was the ticket counter. We went there to get our tickets. So, a friend of mine offered to pay for an OmniMax show. We were stunned. What did she just say? We immediately accepted her gracious offer. We chose to watch Dinosaurs Alive!

The show was not due until 30 minutes later. So we decided to explore the Science Centre.

We were exploring the center part of the centre. And I saw a replica of Albert Einstein climbing up a rope. I think most of you have seen that before. I thought that was Albert Einstein's ghost. So I went around telling my friends, "Hey, this place is haunted by Albert Einstein's ghost! Look! There, see! It's climbing a freaky rope!"

And my hair was messy that time (as usual). So one of my friend, Drima aka. Ashely said, "Oh, I see Albert Einstein's ghost, alright. And this time it's a she!" Immediately, I understood she was referring to me. And I also guessed my so-called ghost is some replica, as people were amused upon seeing him. There was no end to laughter.

We explored more places. That place was, two words. Mind blowing! Dude, you should go to that place.

Time flew. Time for Dinosaurs Alive! Yay!

My friends and I sat right at the back. The coolest place to be, if you want to really really experience the show. There were sound effects. Cool ones, To me. The sound effects scared one child so badly that he had to go out of the theatre with his dad. What a waste of money. His parents should have known. Hmmmm... Too late.

One thing I learnt from that show is that the dinosaur dynasty is not over yet. They have descendants. Descendants we call as birds. Want to know more, visit the website, http://dinosalive.com/
After the show, we explored more of the Science Centre.
Shopping Time!! The time I went with 6A, YueYing, Eunice, Judy and I were ring-shopping. Today, I had plenty of money and bought two rings! And chocolate. And some other stuff.
The fun soon came to an end. We went home. Home-sweet-home.
Signing off from home
